Medical school, moving, 4 trips in 2 months. WHAT?!

So I am really bad at this whole blog thing... Here's the deal the when I started this blog I thoughts to myself "if we end up going to med school a blog spot would be a good place to record our adventures" We were recently accepted to VCU,  while Josh was applying to med school we would always joke that we wouldn't get accepted until last minute, well we were right!

VCU was the last school we had not heard from, Josh called me half excited and half bummed, he said "I'm on the waiting list!" We both knew what that meant, more months of torture and the "unknown" future. When you are on the waiting list for Med school they do not let you know if you are not in until after the 1st week of school has started, which is not until August 8! The applications for starting fall 2012 are due June 1st.  So Josh was having to work like crazy on his applications for next year, not even knowing if he would have to submit them.(He found out 3 days before they were due he was accepted, that was a miracle in itself.) It was an uneasy feeling not knowing if we were in, we didn't know if we would be in Virginia or be in Utah for another year.

One beautiful late May day, (after 3 months of being on the waiting list) while at work josh calls, my heart jumped! He usually didn't call in the afternoon. I answered the phone and Josh had a sound of relief/excitement when he said "So I got an email today and WE'RE IN!" I jumped for joy! All my co-workers could immediately tell why, and passed the news on to the patients in the gym, even some of patients stood up and started to jump! We are so excited to have this opportunity. I know that it is where we are supposed to be. We prayed every night that we would be guided to the place we needed to be.

That night after all the excitement and calling of loved ones, we settled down and started to look up Richmond, Virginia, our new home. The first thing Josh says after googling it is "oh look Julie Richmond is the 15 most dangerous city in America" we both laughed.

So now that we are moving to VCU we have a very busy schedule for the summer, I will continue working until the end of June. But then we will be living out of a suitcase all July. This week we are going to Boston, then on June 28-29 we are loading up our moving Van and move out of our apt.  (we got a great deal $1,600 for them to load, move, store our stuff for 1 month free in Richmond, and then move it to our new place) then on June 30 we go to lake Powell for 2 weeks YAY!

Then we come back to orem say good bye to all our loved ones and hope to head out between july 14-16.We then drive 2,550ish miles across country in 3-4days (still don't know what we are going to do with our two cars? ANYONE WANT TO GO ON A ROAD TRIP WITH OUR CAR!?!?) Then we arrive in Richmond hopefully by July 19-20, stay in a hotel until we have found an apt. which we have to do before july 29, for two reasons 1- our 1 free month of storage will be up and 2 We are going to Hawaii on July 30!!! (we'll get back to that) Anyway so we have like 4 days to find a place to live sign the contract and move in. we have already started our search online but you can't buy a place until you see it right!?

So Josh's family is so sweet to invite us to Hawaii both josh and I have never been! We are going for a week to um... I think Kawaii? I dunno how to spell it. Josh's family did invite us for two weeks, Josh's med school starts August 8. Poor guy we fly home the Aug 7 he is going to be tired for his first day of school. But we think a trip to Hawaii is totally worth it!

Anyway that is our crazy next 2 months but we feel so blessed! There is still so much to plan and so little time :) but we are sure happy! If anyone has ideas of how to:

1. get a car across the country for CHEAP
2. find good student loans/financial aide
3. find places to live in Richmond
4. pack for Hawaii :) jk

I would be grateful for any ideas! Thanks for reading :)

w/love Julie

  1. Hey Julie! I live in VA now and it's amazing! You guys are going to love it! There's a massive LDS listserve out here (a listserve is an email group) for the greater DC area (which includes Richmond) and by subscribing you can post that you need someone to drive your cars or you can look for people selling homes/apt etc. To subscribe you send an email to colonial-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. After that you'll get about 20 emails a day for just about everything and you can post what you need as well. There are a bazillion LDS people out here so I'm sure you could find someone willing to help! If you have any questions let me know!
